Monthly Put On
Welcome, to another installment of our fake monthly put on. This is where we credit artists for making good music. You may ask what we credit them with? We credit them with our words of positivity. The upcoming artist that we want to shine our personal spotlight on is a artist that hails from Queens and goes by the moniker of ILHAM. This talented woman has been on my radar for about a month and has done nothing but impress me with her angelic music. I’m into the whole alternative r&b vibes, so if that genre suite you, then her music is for you. Earlier this year she released her debut EP which is known as 41-10. The cover details our protagonist posing in front of an apartment building which is definitely in the great borough of Queens. This cover eliminates her representation of where she’s (Queens gets the money of course).
Any-who, I discovered Ilham through one my favorite people to follow on Instagram (which is Vashtie, downtown’s sweetheart). I was casually scrolling through the articles on her page when one of the recent posts caught my attention. It was a post praising Ilham about how she is on the come up. I looked through the article and left myself a mental to eventually look her up. So, about a week later I did some research on the upcoming artist. Once again Ilham is straight from the borough of Queens who finished school early (at Cornell University) to pursue her music career. She’s doing well for herself. Last year she was able to self-release her debut single; last night. Talk about a great first impression. With this single Ilham managed to garnish a feature from Harlem’s own, Dave East. I was surprised, but not surprised since they’re both from New York. East does look out for some upcoming New York artists. When I tell you Ilham is a breath of fresh air... I mean it. If you’re into the alternative R&B vibes, then the EP is for you. One again this EP released earlier this year and was re-released a few weeks ago with about 3 to 4 new songs. I was ecstatic when I heard the good news. My favorite song out of the new batch is Cycle of games when Ilham questions her lover’s recent behavior. This one is very soulful, featuring Arin Ray. Some of my other favorite joints are suppress, stuck in the past, say less, and none of your business. Each song touches on the topic of love, with real emotions. Ilham’s cadence is distinct to the point it stands out of the crowd.
In a world where every other artist mocks another artist’s; ones unique attributes is seldom praised. I would not only like to give props to the artist that reels us in with her lyrics, but the producers at hand. A lot of the production is airy with hard hitting kicks and rolling hi hats. That’s what I’m into! The beats will put you into a certain type of vibe. So, whenever you have the chance go search Ilham in Apple Music. You will not regret it. From this point on I will continue to bump her music and patiently wait for her next installment. Go and support the upcoming R&B artist.
